Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other. - James 5:16 (CEB)
I used to work with a man who I knew to be a Christian and who prayed fervently. Once when I was scheduled for a medical procedure, I asked him to put me on his prayer list. He turned to me and said, “Got a minute?” When I said I did, he put his hand on my shoulder and prayed with and for me right then. Afterward, he explained that he developed the habit of praying in the moment when someone asked to be put on his prayer list so he would not forget. Not only did I feel better after we prayed, but this occurrence changed my prayer life as well.
If I do not make a note, I am prone to forget things, especially as I have gotten older. I have since learned that when people ask me to put them on my prayer list, if we pray right then, they know they are being prayed for and I am less likely to forget later during my daily prayers. Now when I receive a prayer request, I also respond with, “Got a minute?”
I will pray without ceasing.
