Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. - Psalm 40:4 (NIV)
One spring, my husband came down with the flu and suffered from a sore throat, cough, and headache. He also lost his voice, but while his body recovered, his voice did not. As a retired pastor, lecturer, and teacher, he felt lost without his voice. I had to be the spokesperson while interacting with others, and our daily conversations waned.
Four months later we visited a specialist who said that a virus had paralyzed his vocal chords. We would need to wait to see if his voice came back eventually. As the months went by and trying to talk and be understood became tiring and wearisome to my husband, he began to withdraw into himself and avoided being in groups of people where the longing to express his opinion was frustrating for him. It was a time of testing and waiting.
After almost a year, his voice returned so that he was able to preach once more. We had put our trust in God who had been with us all the way, holding us, loving us, and teaching us patience and trust.
Sometimes we face unexpected and unusual trials that test our patience and our trust in God. But God is always faithful.
I will wait patiently for the Lord to answer my prayer.
