I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. - John 15:5 (NIV)
Years ago, I planted a small grapevine in our backyard, hoping for a bountiful harvest. Its branches grew, but one season a branch withered. No matter how much water or fertilizer I gave it, it remained lifeless because it had detached from the vine.
Like that branch, we cannot thrive spiritually when we’re disconnected from Jesus. Our efforts will always fall short unless we remain attached to the true Vine. This is the profound truth of John 15:5 — apart from Jesus, we can do nothing. Many people strive for success and fulfillment through worldly means, but true productivity, peace, and purpose come only when we abide in Christ, our source of life, strength, and direction. When we stay connected to him daily through prayer, scripture reading, and obedience, our lives bear fruit that glorifies God.
Are we connected to the Vine, or are we trying to thrive on our own? When we make time to dwell in the presence of Jesus, we can find strength and wisdom. As Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Let us stay rooted in Christ and experience the abundant life he promises.
I will stay connected to Jesus, my true source of strength.
