Practicing Compassion in a Hurting World: A Webinar with authors Caroline Vogel & Frank Rogers
Jesus said: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” What does it mean to love others — and Read More
I am deeply grateful to my mother (may she rest in peace) for introducing me to The Upper Room many years ago. I have always cherished the daily, powerful, and inspiring meditations written by others. For a long time, I felt a desire to submit one of my own, though I never considered myself a writer. I am truly thankful to The Upper Room for publishing my meditation.

I am especially grateful that God did not give up on me and gently guided me to write this reflection in 2024. It was inspired during a visit to a beautiful sunflower field near an ice cream shop in Maryland, where my husband and I stopped to enjoy some ice cream on a hot August day. As I walked among the sunflowers, admiring their beauty, I felt God speak to my heart: “Look at how these flowers follow the sun for special care. In the same way, you need to turn your face toward me to receive my special care and love.”
Those words touched me deeply and reminded me that as long as I turn toward God, he will provide the strength and courage I need to keep going, no matter the circumstances. Like David says in Psalm 121:1-2, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth” (NIV). What a comfort it is to know that God is always with us when we seek him.
I continue to grow stronger in my faith by attending my weekly women’s Bible study, worshiping with my Christian community, and using my gifts and talents for God’s glory.
I hope my meditation inspires others to turn their faces toward God and discover how loving and caring God is. May we continually praise God for abundant blessings and remain grateful for God’s love and care always.
