Daily Grace in Every Language

February 13, 2026 by Nicole Curtis

Right now, as you read this, in some part of the world, a person is picking up The Upper Room daily devotional guide, seeking strength and solace in the language of their heart. These daily moments of grace are only possible because of partners like you.

Upon the heels of celebrating the 90th anniversary of The Upper Room in 2025, we now celebrate the anniversaries of nine of our language editions. These anniversaries are a testament to God’s faithfulness and to donor generosity that sustain our global ministry.

In 2026, we celebrate the anniversaries for these language editions:

·       Chinese/English-Malaysia: 25 years

·       French-Africa (Côte d’Ivoire): 15 years

·       Ilokano (Philippines): 15 years

·       Japan-English: 15 years

·       Spanish-Uruguay: 15 years

·       Korean/English: 20 years

·       Spanish-Bolivia: 20 years

·       Spanish-Mexico: 40 years

·       Japanese: 77 years

Since the first edition was printed in 1935, The Upper Room has sought to live out the Great Commission by making disciples of all nations. In God’s kingdom, the borders that divide us melt away; every language and culture finds belonging. That truth is beautifully embodied in the story of our Japanese edition, which began just a few years after World War II. Today—77 years later—more than 7,000 readers in Japan find hope and comfort in the daily devotional guide, a remarkable number in a country where only 1% of the population identifies as Christian.

As our international ministry has grown, so have the relationships that undergird it. We are blessed through the relationships of our local ministry partners who produce the devotional in more than 30 languages. And our U.S.-English edition is enriched as well, containing in each issue over 30% of meditations written by readers in other countries. The Upper Room truly reflects the global body of Christ, united in prayer and purpose.

You can play a vital role in this life-transforming work. Your gift to the international editions supports our ministry partners by providing essential resources for translation, editing, printing, distribution, and outreach in their communities. While some editions like the Japanese, Korean-English, and Spanish-Mexico editions are fully self-sustaining, most depend on the generosity of donors to continue their ministry.

Will you help ensure that The Upper Room remains available in the heart language of believers around the world? Your generosity today will bear fruit tomorrow—in places you may never visit, among brothers and sisters in Christ you may never meet.

We are deeply grateful for you. Together, by God’s good grace, we will continue the sacred work of making disciples of all nations.
