Invite Someone You Know to The Academy

May 8, 2025 by The staff of The Upper Room

For over 40 years, The Academy for Spiritual Formation has offered a sacred space where spiritual seekers—both laity and clergy—gather for deep listening, communal rhythm, and transformative practice. Rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition and open to people from all denominations, The Academy weaves together prayer, study, silence, and community in a way that nurtures both the inward journey of the soul and the outward life of compassionate action. In a noisy and divided world, The Academy provides a life-giving rhythm of retreat and renewal, helping participants reconnect with God, themselves, and others.

The next Two-Year Academy for Spiritual Formation begins in November 2025. Whether or not you plan to participate in Two-Year Academy 43, we ask you to share this opportunity with others in your life. You are our best ambassadors for creating awareness of this life-giving ministry. Most people come to The Academy because of a direct, personal invitation. Someone you know needs the gift of your invitation.

  • Take 10 minutes to make a list of people you know who long for a community of spiritual practice where they can be their whole selves. Then reach out to each person with an email invitation and/or a phone call or an in-person visit to talk about attending Academy 43.
  • Ask your faith community and denominational judicatory to share the news about Academy 43. They can contact the Academy office for tools to share about Academy 43 in their communication outlets as well as find out about how to partner with The Upper Room to provide financial support for their constituents to attend The Academy.
  • Share Robert Benson's Living Prayer or Kristen Vincent's Beads of Healing with those interested in The Academy and wanting to know more. Both Robert's and Kristen's stories of healing, prayer, and formation include their journeys through The Academy and are a great invitation into the Two-Year experience.
