The Spirit of truth, the Advocate that Jesus promises to send, is a presence we can trust. The Holy Spirit functions as a bridge of communication between God and humankind, and we should rejoice in this shared connection with our Creator. At the same time, truth is a double-edged sword....
God, through good times and bad you provide us a path to live with integrity and to follow you. Help us appreciate the gift of prayer and communicate to you and to one another with open hearts. Amen.
The Holy Spirit is God working in our lives to create sacred connection within our shared human struggle. The psalmist is overwhelmed by the splendid work of creation in Psalm 8. Paul writes in Romans about the powerful love we can find in the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of John echoes this sentiment by seeing the Holy Spirit as the messenger of truth. And finally, Wisdom, expressed as a female personification of God’s divine attribute, cries out from the city gates in Proverbs. The workings of the Holy Spirit create within us the space to hear the voice of God. As Wisdom cries out sacred truth, so should we continue to listen for the promptings of the Spirit.
