Wisdom calls out to us, her people. From her vantage point at the town gate, she sees the frustrations and difficulties of her community, and she empathizes with them.
I experience a feeling of unease in the pit of my stomach when I watch acts of injustice unfold around me....
God who hears the cries of the marginalized, help us find our prophetic voice. Help us cry out with Wisdom on behalf of those suffering injustice so that we can work toward a better world together. Amen.
The Holy Spirit is God working in our lives to create sacred connection within our shared human struggle. The psalmist is overwhelmed by the splendid work of creation in Psalm 8. Paul writes in Romans about the powerful love we can find in the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of John echoes this sentiment by seeing the Holy Spirit as the messenger of truth. And finally, Wisdom, expressed as a female personification of God’s divine attribute, cries out from the city gates in Proverbs. The workings of the Holy Spirit create within us the space to hear the voice of God. As Wisdom cries out sacred truth, so should we continue to listen for the promptings of the Spirit.
