Sara Cowley | Read Psalm 8:1-9
The psalmist compliments “the work of [God’s] fingers” in verse 3, and I envision the first quilt I made. While not as majestic as the heavens or the stars and moon, I created this quilt with my own hands. I stared longingly at the fabric wall at my local sewing...
Creator who shaped the stars and moon, we praise your majestic name! Help us create in ways that honor the divine spark within us. Amen.
The Holy Spirit is God working in our lives to create sacred connection within our shared human struggle. The psalmist is overwhelmed by the splendid work of creation in Psalm 8. Paul writes in Romans about the powerful love we can find in the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of John echoes this sentiment by seeing the Holy Spirit as the messenger of truth. And finally, Wisdom, expressed as a female personification of God’s divine attribute, cries out from the city gates in Proverbs. The workings of the Holy Spirit create within us the space to hear the voice of God. As Wisdom cries out sacred truth, so should we continue to listen for the promptings of the Spirit.
