The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. - Psalm 28:7 (NRSVUE)

When I was about eight years old, I wandered off while playing in the woods behind my house. What began as a carefree afternoon quickly turned into panic as I realized I had lost my way. With tears welling up, I called out for help, but there was no answer. I felt completely alone.

Then I remembered what my father had told me before our family hikes: “When you get lost, stop where you are, and trust that I will find you.” His words echoed in my mind, and although it felt counterintuitive, I did exactly that. I sat down on a fallen log and prayed. Instead of trying to fix the situation on my own, I chose to wait and trust.

Minutes passed, and then I heard a familiar voice calling my name. It was my father, coming toward me. I had no idea how he found me, but his relief and my joy were overwhelming. I learned that day what it meant to trust and obey, even when I didn’t understand the way forward.

The same is true in our spiritual journey. Sometimes we feel lost, uncertain, or overwhelmed. In those moments, we are called to trust and obey God’s guidance. God’s presence is always with us, leading us back to safety and peace.

Today's Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us trust you when life feels overwhelming. Give us strength to obey your guidance, knowing you lead us to the right path. Amen.
