To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. - 1 Peter 2:21 (NIV)
I have made it a habit to walk two miles daily. I walk outside when the weather is nice and inside the mall when the weather is bad. As a senior citizen, I feel it’s important that I keep moving for as long as I can. One day I was walking out of the grocery store and to my car when a young woman stopped me. She said, “I see you walk by our home every day. Good for you!” She was impressed that I’m faithful in walking every day. This woman’s words were a powerful reminder that people notice our actions.
Indeed, the actions of those around us make an impression and can have an impact on our lives. I remember when my grandfather would visit us for a week every year. He was a devout follower of Christ. He would sit on our couch and read the Bible, and I would sit at his feet and watch his lips move as he silently read those sacred words. His faithful discipline of reading scripture daily set an example that I have never forgotten.
As today’s reading from Colossians says, may we live out our walk of faith in a manner worthy of the Lord and pleasing to him. Let us consider always how we can be a good example, encouraging others to live faithfully and walk in the Lord’s steps.
Whose example has encouraged me in my walk of faith?
