Sharing What We Love

ver since my brother returned from a mission trip to Australia years ago, my family has loved a cookie they make there: chocolate mousse, sandwiched between crunchy chocolate biscuits, covered in a layer of milk chocolate. For a long time, we couldn’t get them in our area. Then one happy day my brother found them in a local store. Since then we’ve shared them with others, giving some to relatives and telling everyone how good those cookies are.

One day I realized that I am willing to talk to family members and even complete strangers about cookies, but I am hardly ever willing to talk to them about Christ. Before he ascended into heaven, Jesus told his followers, “You will be my witnesses . . . to the ends of the earth.” This statement was not only for the first disciples; it’s for us too.

In Christ we receive forgiveness, a personal relationship with God, and the assurance of eternal life. While people may like cookies, people need to hear about Christ. But how can they unless someone tells them? And that’s what we are called to do. We just need to be willing to share with others our personal experience of Jesus Christ.
