Gabriel said to Daniel, “As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.” - Daniel 9:23 (NIV)
I was a single mother, and at one point, I was unemployed and without a vehicle. But I needed a car to get a job. If I couldn’t get to work, I couldn’t care for myself and my child. I cried and prayed, and I spoke with some people at church about it.
Not long after speaking with them, a couple of church elders came to me. They had been to a local car-repair shop, and because the owner was also a Christian, they told them my story. They said the three of them prayed about it right then. And as soon as they said, “Amen,” a man walked into the shop wanting to sell his vehicle. Then he paused and said, “Or if you know anyone who needs a car, I can give it away because we’re getting a new one.” They were amazed but not surprised. They knew the power of two or more gathered in God’s name (see Matt. 18:20). That car had over one hundred thousand miles on it, but it lasted me several years. I was even able to trade it in later for a newer car.
This experience reminded me of today’s verse. God is attentive to the prayers of those who feel powerless and cares for all of God’s children.
I can pray with confidence, knowing that God is attentive to my prayers.
