This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” - Matthew 6:9-10 (NIV)
My parents married at a very young age and divorced after only four years. It was decided that my sister and I would live with my father. Despite some limitations and a difficult family history, my father has done everything he can for the good of his children.
Through the years I have developed a special, loving relationship with my father. He and I share a love of reading and special foods. I recall many times during my childhood when we would go out to eat. The server would ask what I wanted to order, and I would respond, “Whatever my dad is having.”
Even now, that response suggests and brings to mind certain words: identity, trust, dependence, love, belonging. It is the same in our relationship with God, our Father. When we feel secure and confident in God’s love for us, we develop a close and genuine relationship with God. And when we claim our identity as children of God, we can entrust God with our present and future and fully depend on God. We must aspire to accept God’s work within us and to want the same things God wants for us. Our heavenly Father knows what we need and, without a doubt, loves us beyond measure.
Above all else, God loves us.
