Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. - Acts 2:2 (NIV)
Not long ago, my family and I were in Charlotte, North Carolina, and had the opportunity to visit the Discovery Place Science Museum. It had an exhibit about how sailboats are moved by the wind, complete with model boats to test.
First I placed my boat with its sail straight, and nothing happened. Then I tried again, positioning the sail another way. Still, nothing happened. My son, Ben, came up to me and said, “You need to twist your sail and trust the wind.” I couldn’t believe that a sail that wasn’t straight and perfectly aligned would catch the wind well. But when I tried what he said, gently twisting the sail, the wind pushed the boat and moved it forward fast!
Many times in my life I have wanted things to be perfectly aligned and under my control. We often want things to look just right. But we need to trust that God is in control. The Holy Spirit is the wind that propels us, moving us toward God’s purpose.
Where do I notice the Holy Spirit moving in my life?
