I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning?” - Psalm 42:9 (NIV)

It was the week before Christmas, and I was pouting. “Bah, humbug, God; I’m estranged from my family so I’ll sit here alone again and make my own dinner. At least I hope you’ll be with me.”

Then, on Thursday my friend Wally took me to the senior center for a wonderful Christmas dinner. On Sunday, friends George and Jan took me to our church Christmas service. Then I went out to lunch with several friends, and George and Jan took me back to the evening carol service. It was a beautiful day! On Christmas afternoon, my friend Larry brought me a wonderful Christmas dinner. Later that day Wally sent me another feast that he cooked himself. I also received several calls, texts, and emails wishing me a Merry Christmas.

At the end of a wonderful day, I thought, God even listens to us when we are whining! “Forgive me, Lord,” I prayed, “for allowing my mind to forget the magnificent gift you gave us at Christmas.”

God’s love blesses us beyond our ability to understand, sending others to sustain us when we feel lost and alone. Wrapped in the arms of God, we are never forgotten.

Today's Prayer
Listening God, forgive us when we forget your powerful love. When we wander and forget your loving presence, stay with us. Amen.
