When my anxieties multiply, your comforting calms me down. - Psalm 94:19 (CEB)

One morning, I bent over and experienced an excruciating snap in my spine. My back locked up, leaving me in an awkward position, and I screamed in pain. Two weeks of pain, discomfort, and limited mobility followed. When I experienced another intense pain, an MRI revealed multiple cracked and bulging disks, torn ligaments, and compressed nerves.

As I stared at the test results, fear gripped my heart. Thoughts overwhelmed me: I’ll need surgery. I’ll never walk well again. I’ll have a permanent disability. I’ll need to stay at home forever.

Then I remembered Psalm 94:19, which I had read that morning. My head stopped spinning. My heart calmed. I trusted things would be okay. This scripture brought me peace, reminding me that God is aware of my anxieties.

Three years of tough step-by-step recovery followed. Amid painful experiences and frustration, scripture delighted my soul and enabled me to go on. Since then, whenever I’m overwhelmed, I recall Psalm 94:19. It brings me solace and redirects my attention from my problems to God. Through scripture, God continues to dissolve my anxieties.
