The Goodness of God

December 27, 2019 by Mary Ng Shwu Ling (Singapore)

This past year has been challenging for me. Both of my parents passed away. And I was hospitalized due to an insect bite.

During these challenging times, God has been my refuge. I have rested secure in the joy of God’s presence. I know my peace doesn’t depend on my challenging situations. God’s presence helps me not to be shaken.

I can see God’s goodness in my situation. For example, I can see God’s providence regarding my parents’ funeral expenses. And I am grateful for relatives, friends, and neighbors who visited and comforted us at the wake. I can see God’s goodness also in the knowledge that my parents are safe in the arms of Jesus, with no more pain or suffering.

And during my hospitalization, I also experienced God’s goodness. I was surrounded by three patients who were suffering fevers, but I believe that God protected me from being infected. I feel blessed to have a strong immune system, and I am grateful for my speedy recovery from the insect bite.

Thank you, Almighty God, for your goodness and faithfulness. I am eternally grateful to you for helping me to focus on you and not be shaken when I face challenging times.
