God’s Creatures as Ministers of Mercy
In Jesus’ parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19–31), we focus on the stark Read More
Dear Readers,
In my October 20th devotion, I talked about seeing a beautiful sunrise with a colorful rainbow. I’ve included a photo from that morning. Although I don’t think it does justice to the beauty of that morning, I think it gives you a sense of it. I continue to take morning walks on that same path in my town. The other morning there was another really beautiful sunrise, and I’ve included a photo of that scene as well.
When I take my morning walks it tends to be a time for me to think. As a pastor I need to write a sermon each week, so I often find myself pondering a scripture passage as I walk. Other times I am actively praying for a person or a situation, or I might be thinking about my schedule for the day. All of these are good ways of spending this time, but one thing I sometimes forget to do is to be present in the moment.
I like the photos that I included because they remind me of times when I stopped in my tracks and took a moment to enjoy beautiful scenes provided by God. I was glad that I could take photos to look at later to remind me of those moments as well. It’s such a blessing when we have times in our busy days when we can just rest in God and appreciate a moment of peace. For me those moments might happen when I read The Upper Room, drink a cup of hot tea, listen to my children laughing, or spend time outside.
As you read this, I don’t know what is going on in your life. You might be going through something difficult and be having a hard time experiencing God’s peace. I hope and pray that God will send you moments like these to simply rest in God’s presence and be confident of God’s loving care for you and your life.
Blessings,
Rebecca
