December 3: A Servant’s Heart 
1. Who in your life has stepped into a parental role for you? How did their influence change you?  
2. When have you poured out your heart to God looking for comfort?  How did that connect you with God?  In what ways did God offer you direction and comfort in that moment?  
3. Have you ever felt led to comfort others even while you were in pain?  If so, what did you do?  If not, how do you think it would feel to comfort someone else despite your own grief? 
4. How does the story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet encourage you to serve others?  What other stories from Jesus’ life encourage you to serve?  
5. What are some ways you can comfort and help those who are grieving in your community today?  How could you show them Jesus’ love and comforting presence? 

December 10: Help My Unbelief 
1. When have you or a loved one faced a scary medical issue?  What did you think and feel while it was happening?  What questions and worries came up for you? 
2. Do doubts and fears make it hard for you to pray?  If not, what other obstacles make prayer difficult for you?  What do you do when you struggle to pray? 
3. When you are experiencing difficult or scary times, how does scripture help you?  What verses and stories do you find the most compelling in these times?   
4. Have you ever struggled with unbelief?  If so, what happened?  How can you help someone struggling with unbelief today? 
5. Recall a time when you read a scripture story and gained a new understanding of the story.  Why do you think you gained this new perspective?  How did this new understanding of the story help you? 

December 17: Untimely Grief 
1. Have you ever experienced loss during the Christmas season?  If so, how did that loss affect your celebrations and feelings about the holiday?  If not, when have you experienced a loss at a time when you least expected it?   
2. How does it make you feel knowing that death and loss can come at any time? Where do you find hope in the midst of loss? 
3. When have you experienced a bittersweet Christmas season?  What happened?  Who and what brought you comfort?  Where did you find moments of joy during the season? 
4. What scripture passages console you when you think about loved ones who have died?  Why are these passages comforting to you? 
5. Who in your life is grieving this Christmas season?  How might you comfort them?  If you are grieving this Christmas, what encouragement and support do you need from God and from others?

December 24: Christmas Eve
1. Do you enjoy attending Christmas Eve services at your church?  Why or why not?  How does celebrating Christ’s birth with others differ from celebrating Christ on your own? 
2. Have you ever felt too tired and unmotivated to attend a worship service?  What did you do?  Do you feel it is important to push yourself to go to church even when you don’t feel like it? Why or why not? 
3. Do you ever help set up for worship services or clean up afterward?  Why or why not?  How does helping in this way change your feelings about attending worship?   
4. Recall a Christmas worship service that particularly lifted your spirits. What made that service special?  
5. What scripture passages, prayers, and hymns help you experience the joy of Christ’s birth, even when responsibilities abound? 

December 31: Helping Your Neighbors 
1. When has someone helped you unexpectedly in a time when you felt worried and overwhelmed?  Why do you think they helped you?  How did their assistance impact you? 
2. How do your neighbors care for you?  How do you care for your neighbors?  Why is it so important to care for one another? 
3. When someone shows you care and support, how do you thank them?  Do you offer them something in return?  Do you pray for them?  Why or why not? 
4. When has trouble brought you an unforeseen blessing?  What happened?  How did this blessing make a difference for you? 
5. Who in your community needs your help today?  What can you do for them?
