October 1: Walking with Neighbors

1. When have you or someone you know gone on a journey and had to bring everything needed to survive? What was the journey? How did relying on others become newly important during that time?
2. Recall a time when you witnessed a small gift making a huge difference. What was the gift? Why did it make such a difference?
3. Where in your life do you see strangers forming a community? In what ways does that community support its members? How have the strangers become “neighbors”?
4. What small kindnesses do you offer to those around you? How do these encounters enrich your life? In what ways do you stay prepared and open to help those in need?
5. Consider your neighbors. Who needs help right now? How can you care for them? What small actions could make a big difference for them?

October 8: The Miracle of a Seed

1. When have you witnessed seeds being scattered haphazardly? Were they tended to? Did any of them grow into plants?
2. Do you find it easy or difficult to share God’s word with others? Why? What encourages you to share your faith even when it feels challenging?
3. When have you seen surprising results from talking about God? How does that situation inspire you to remain open to others who want to hear about God?
4. How do you provide continuing care and encouragement to the people you minister to? Why is it so important to be attentive to these connections?
5. What scripture verses encourage you to share your faith? What spiritual practices give you courage to share God’s word?

October 15: Peace in Troubled Times

1. When have you been worried about your health and safety? What did you do? How did your faith help you through that experience?
2. Recall a time when you came across a scripture verse that provided exactly what you needed. How did the verse help you? In what ways did you keep the verse close during that time?
3. Why do you think scripture has such power to help us overcome fear? What verses do you turn to when you are afraid? What prayers help allay your fears?
4. Who or what in your life helps you hold on to strength and hope? Why? How does this reminder help you trust God when you face challenges?
5. When has God been with you in moments of struggle and brokenness? Did you find it hard to notice God’s presence in those moments? Why or why not? What helps you turn to God even when you feel broken?

October 22: The Kindness of Others

1. When have you cared for someone in your community? How did the experience enrich your life and faith?
2. Recall a time when someone made the effort to check on you. Did you know the person? How did it feel to be cared for in this way?
3. When have you felt that you knew a stranger because of the way they reflect God’s love and care? Why do you think someone’s Christlike actions can make us feel closer to them?
4. What scripture verses help you remain open to the needs of others? What verses remind you of how important it is to care for others?
5. Who in your community needs a helping hand today? How can you care for them? What do you need today? How will you accept help from others?

October 29: Trusting God’s Plan

1. When have you found that anticipation deepens your grief? Why do you think this happens? How do you avoid focusing on future pain?
2. How does God help you through painful times? How does prayer strengthen you when you’re in pain? How does your faith help you remain hopeful in such times?
3. Do you find it easy to trust that God has a plan? Why or why not? How do you lean on God even when you don’t know what the future holds?
4. Recall a painful time in your life. Who in scripture do you most relate to when you think about this time? How does their story encourage you and deepen your trust in God?
5. What prayers and spiritual practices comfort you in times of grief and uncertainty? How do you remain connected to God and keep trusting even when you are struggling?
