After retiring from the pastoral ministry, I began to feel my prayer life diminishing. Since I was no longer visiting people in hospitals, church members’ homes, and at church gatherings, I did not have as many opportunities to offer prayer for others. I felt a little “left out” of the prayer loop.
One morning while my wife and I were sharing our time in The Upper Room, I felt an urge to pray for the person who had written the devotion. Then and there I found a new direction in my prayer life. Since that day, I have been able to pray for many people from many nations and places.Sometimes my prayers are very short. Sometimes the person and their needs go with me through the day. Even though I may not know the total extent of their joys, sufferings, pains, and health, I can lift each one up to the altar of God in prayer. I also know that since being moved to pray The Upper Room, my prayer for a more meaningful retirement has been answered.
