A year ago, I submitted the meditation that was published today. When I first got the congratulatory email, I was over the moon as if this was my first rodeo. My loved ones couldn’t understand my excitement because even though writing is just a hobby for me, they have seen my work published numerous times. However, for me, this was very special because it was my first devotional with The Upper Room. I had been submitting devotionals for four years without any success, but I was never one to give up because of my history with The Upper Room.
Coming from a troubled family as I mentioned in my meditation, my parents eventually separated when I was in my early teens. I was then sent to stay with one of my aunts who had generously agreed to pay for my education. Being a faith-filled woman, my aunt ensured that every evening, without fail, we would read the day’s meditation from The Upper Room. This was my favorite part of prayer because the real stories that I read gave me so much hope and faith that one day my life story would turn out all right. I said to myself, “One day, I will also write my story and inspire other people.”
It was through The Upper Room that I fell in love with the word of God and realized how powerful that word is: powerful to reform the mind, compel hearts, and ultimately transform lives. I plan to continue writing meditations and short stories to inspire as many people as I possibly can. Above all, I strive to make my life preach more than my pen. That is why I chose the career path that I am on and have been for the past 18 years. When I am not at work, I am at home using my pen to make the world a better place.
In what ways are you making the world a better place?
