July 2: Hummingbird Battles

1. When have you found that observing nature was not as peaceful as you expected? Why? What did you learn from your observations?
2. Recall a time when you knew there was enough for all, yet you still witnessed fighting and discontent. Why do you think this happened? What was the outcome?
3. Do you find yourself growing weary from the conflict and disunion in the world? Why or why not? What helps you find peace in times of conflict?
4. What scripture verses help you remember that Christ will return and bring healing, justice, and peace? Why are these verses helpful for you? How do you cling to them when you feel disheartened?
5. How do you think it will feel in Christ’s new creation? What do you think will be different from our current world? What do you think will remain?

July 9: A Special Bond

1. When have you been cared for by or provided care for a loved one? What was the experience like? How did that caregiving impact your relationship?
2. When has a mutual love for Christ strengthened a relationship of yours? Why did it do so? How does your love for Christ impact all your relationships?
3. How does your love for God and for others help you overcome challenges? How does your faith help you to cherish moments of joy with those you love?
4. Think of an important relationship in your life. What relationship in scripture most resembles your experience? What can you learn from the relationship in the Bible?
5. What relationships have been the greatest challenge for you? Why? What relationships have been the greatest gifts to you? How do they draw you closer to God?

July 16: A Closer Look

1. When have you arrived somewhere only to find a place completely different from what you were expecting? What happened? How did you respond?
2. Recall a time when a location or situation seemed dry and lifeless but was actually teeming with life. How did you realize it was not as barren as it seemed?
3. When have you been unaware of God’s creative power at work in a situation, only to notice it after pausing to look around? What brought it to your awareness? How did noticing God’s creativity change your view of the situation?
4. What scripture passages most remind you of God’s ability to bring beauty and life into anything? How do these passages encourage you?
5. What areas of your life feel barren and dry? Why? What prayers and spiritual practices help you to welcome God’s creative and rejuvenating power in this part of your life?

July 23: The Words to Pray

1. Do you struggle to know what to pray? Why or why not? What do you do when you don’t know what to pray?
2. Does scripture help you when you don’t have the words to pray? In what ways? Do you ever pray using words from scripture?
3. What is your favorite scripture verse? Why is it your favorite? How do you use this verse in your daily spiritual practice?
4. Have you ever simply prayed Jesus’ name? If so, how did the prayer impact you? If not, have you ever considered praying his name? Why or why not?
5. Who has taught you how to pray? Whom have you taught how to pray? What are the most meaningful prayer practices you have learned from other believers?

July 30: An Abundant Catch

1. When have you had more than you needed? What did you do with the extra? Describe what happened.
2. Recall a time when you witnessed a diverse group coming together for a cause. What was the outcome? What did you learn from that experience?
3. What is the significance for you of everyone’s being welcome at God’s table? How are you encouraged by that fact? How do you make sure others know they are welcome there too?
4. When have you received a seemingly simple gift that made a significant difference for you? When have you been transformed by giving a simple gift?
5. Who in your community needs your help today? How can you help them? How will you remain open to the needs of those around you moving forward?
