February 5: An Example to Follow

1. When have you done something nice for someone, only to have them respond in a way that felt ungrateful? What did you think or do in response?
2. What most often motivates your acts of kindness? Do you ever do nice things because of what you expect to get in return? Why is it so easy for us to slip into this mindset?
3. Do you find it difficult to love when love and kindness are not reciprocated? Why or why not? What spiritual practices help you love even when it feels difficult?
4. What scripture passages remind you of the importance of loving others as God loves us? How do you remind yourself of these verses when you are struggling to love?

February 12: My Dream Job

1. What is your dream job? Is it your current job or are you doing something else instead? How do you feel about your job?
2. Do you find it easy to lose sight of the blessings in your life? Why or why not? How do you remain focused on the blessings during the day-to-day busyness?
3. Describe a gratitude practice that has been meaningful for you. Why do you think this practice makes a difference for you? How do you maintain this practice even when you have a lot on your plate?
4. Why do you think it is easy to forget our blessings when we feel worn down? How do your church community and your loved ones help you remain grateful and focused on God even when you are overwhelmed?
5. What blessings are you most grateful for today? Why? How have you expressed your gratitude to God?

February 19: Joyful Service

1. When have you been surprised by someone’s humble service? Why were you surprised? What did you learn from their example?
2. Describe a time when you had the opportunity to serve others with humility. What did you do? What was the experience like?
3. Why do you think it is common for society to imply that we find happiness in being served? Have you found that to be true? How have you found happiness in serving?
4. Do you tend to agree with Jesus’ teaching on serving without putting it into practice? Why or why not? How does your understanding of the teaching change when you actually practice it?
5. Whom can you serve in your community? How will you put Jesus’ teaching into practice today? What joy do you think you will experience in doing so?

February 26: Like Trees Walking Around

1. Were you ever chosen last for games as a child? If so, what was that like? If not, when else were you chosen last?
2. Why do you think it is easy to judge others without knowing their full story? Why does knowing more about someone often make us more merciful and compassionate toward them?
3. Recall a time when you judged or criticized someone, only later to learn that they were going through something difficult. Did your perception of them change? What did you learn through that situation?
4. In what ways do you see others like “trees walking around”? How does your relationship with Christ help you view others with compassion and love?
5. How do you think Jesus saw people? What does seeing people as Jesus did mean to you? What helps you view others in this way?
