Today is All Saint’s Day, the day after All Hallows’ Eve (Halloween to most). As I remember those who went before me—my parents, grandparents, and mentors—I ask myself, “What kind of legacy am I leaving? Am I effectively passing the baton to the next generation who will be able to carry on the work of caring for the marginalized, encouraging the downcast, and visiting the sick, lonely, and incarcerated? Most importantly, am I the light Jesus wants me to be—reflecting God’s love to those I encounter daily? Am I the witness God needs me to be?” One day, I will be remembered on All Saints Day. Will those who come behind me find me faithful? I pray so.
