Thank you everyone for your kind and informative comments regarding my previous devotional, “Precious Word.” It is a privilege to have the opportunity to write and read about faith and personal experiences within The Upper Room community.
“Uphill with God” is my second meditation accepted by The Upper Room, and once again I am excited to share with you. This particular devotional was inspired by the need for time alone outside with God during some trials.
As someone who overthinks and is naturally shy, I have found that when confronted with a problem, it is easy to permit “what-ifs” and other unnecessary thoughts to dwell inside my head. Writing it down certainly helps, but the physical act of walking in the outdoors also gives me time to focus, concentrate, and process my situation. Being open about my worries with a loving God, surrounded by God’s glorious creation is healing. Even when I struggle to communicate my anxieties or can’t think of the words to say. I believe God knows and understands my problems.
Everyone faces trials of some kind during their spiritual journey. Perhaps you are in the middle of a tough time and struggling to see a way forward. You may be finding it difficult to pray. Knowing (even when we feel helpless) that we have a compassionate Father who understands us is reassuring. God invites us to share our problems with him and with people who can help us. When I walk or need a time to reflect, I am reminded that God is a loving Father who knows who we are and knows his purpose for us. It doesn’t mean God will take away the particular challenges in our lives, but God never abandons us. Instead, God walks beside us through our uphill journeys.
