More From Juita Kartini

December 24, 2021 by Juita Kartini (Jakarta, Indonesia)

My grandmother is a farmer. In her village, farming is still done manually. During the holiday season, I visited my grandmother. One morning, I accompanied her to dry the rice in her yard. The weather was quite sunny, but slowly the clouds began to cloud. Then I saw Grandma look up to the sky and whisper, “Oh, my God, have mercy.”

As a city girl, I'm used to depending on technology. When I have a problem, I look for a solution on a search engine, not the Bible. When I feel tired, I play the music player loudly for entertainment, instead of calming down in worship.

Coming home from vacation, I promise not to forget the Christian teachings handed down by my grandmother, and to remain faithful to put God first, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of a super busy city life.
